Acer S243HL LCD Monitor Unlocked

The Acer S243HL LCD Monitor is the latest of offerings provided to consumers by Acer in its display systems segment. The 24-inch S243HL shares a lot of common attributes to its nearest competitor from Samsung, the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370. On comparison both the variants feature a sleek design, ultra thin panel, LED backlight and a similar price tag.

The Acer S243HL spots an aesthetic design and has two HDMI ports and one VGI port. However, the absence of a DVI port means, most people have to buy an HDMI-to-DVI cable for connecting their desktops to the monitor. An advantage of the placement of connections is that all connections are provided at the back of the monitor screen like all ordinary TV connections do. This makes the connection process much easier and accessible to users.

Built in speakers are present to the left of the OSD array and underneath the buttons a trendy LED is present which glows in the dark. The styling of S243HL is not complemented by its performance and this is the main back stabber of the display unit. The monitor has difficulties in displaying a perfect black background way beyond the normal LCD screens and this has an adverse effect on other display colors. A dark screen test reveals backlight bleeding and clouding effects on the LCD screen way beyond normal levels. Overall the display unit is energy efficient in the long run and is an EPA energy star compliant. The LCD unit supports full HD and has a 16:9 display ratio. The Dynamic Contrast Ratio of S243HL is 8,000,000:1 and has a TN panel.

Acer provides a three-year limited period, parts and labor warranty to the LCD monitor and regular anytime support are offered to its customers online through their website as well. Unfortunately, the Acer S243HL is all about the looks and lacks genuinely in performance. The system is wobbly due to its oblique design, and the viewing angles other than the optimized angle are not always the best. Overall the Acer’s S243HL LCD Monitor deserves 6.5 out of 10.
